Netflix Versus ISPs: Net Neutrality Or Paid Fast Internet Service

Netflix and other major online streaming content providers continue to favor net neutrality with strong arguments.

Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) and other major online streaming content providers made an official case in favor of net neutrality and submitted comments to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on July 16. Their stance lies on the basis that open content and neutral internet service is the primary reason behind the internet’s success.

Proponents of net neutrality, the lobbyist group that includes Google Inc (GOOG), Facebook (FB), Netflix, Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN), have stated:

“The internet is threatened by broadband internet access providers who would turn the open, best-efforts internet into a pay-for-priority platform more closely resembling cable television than today’s internet.”

Netflix has always been a key advocate of net neutrality, which protects open content and also interconnection to the last mile. It believes that free expression, continuous innovation, and diverse content can only be maintained by achieving net neutrality. Therefore, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) should not in any way hamper or favor Internet services that viewers choose to use.
